The True Secret Of A Successful Entrepreneur By Patric Chan




Being an entrepreneur and running your own business might
seem ideal... getting out of the so-called, "rat race" of
job employment. If you're already doing that, congrats but
read this article first.

The absolute best way to make money as an entrepreneur is
to start out by doing the things you enjoy and outsource
the things that are necessary but you don't like to do.


Although some people will tell you to chase the money and
forget about what you like. After all, business is
business, right?

That depends on you.

If your number one motivation is money-- if the sun rises
and sets on money in your land... and if the sight of a
dollar bills sends you into shivers of ecstasy-- then yes,
perhaps for you business is business. If money is your
passion, if "buying stuff" is what drives everything you
do, then in that case it really doesn't matter what you
do... because as long as you're making money, you'll be
happy.

Do you identify with that personality?

Can you be happy doing anything as long as you're making
boatloads of cash?

If not, then read on...

Most people like money, yes. I like money too. I believe
it's the same for you as well. Come on, it's a fact and
nothing to be ashamed of. But if I really examine why I do
what I do today for business, I may find that money isn't
the main motivator. "Buying stuff" may not be the main
motivator either. Sounds cheesy and corny but I won't spend
the time here to convince you that it's the truth.

If you're the type of person who thrives on good feelings
when you help people, even if money isn't involved, if you
are really passionate about something (cars, quilts,
relationship, whatever), if a kind word from a customer
would really make your day-- then you may be an
entrepreneur today NOT for the purpose of making the green
bags. That's good news because you'll love what you're
doing.

Yes, I know you're getting into business at least partly if
not mainly to make money รข€“ after all, money buys
freedom... the freedom to buy what you want, the freedom to
make your own schedule, etc.


However, you don't need to chase the money in order to make
loads of money.

What do I mean by that?

Here's something for you to chew on... not everyone who
"chases the money" is rich. I bet you've seem them all. And
amazingly, not everyone who chose a path related to their
passions is poor.

You see, choosing to chase the money is no guarantee that
you will make money. In fact, there are no guarantees at
all... So why not do something that you actually enjoy?

Exactly.

Now you may be thinking that if it makes money for you-- if

you see results, you don't care if you enjoy it or not.
Sure, if you're one of those people I described before
(where money is your main motivator), then this will work
for you.

But I bet you've dropped things in your life before even
though they were creating the results you wanted.

For example, have you ever taken up an exercise or diet
plan that you didn't like?

Perhaps you took up running in the morning. But you hate
running. And you're a night owl.

But dang it, you made a promise to yourself that you were
going to lose weight and get in shape. So every morning you
get up and jog. A few weeks pass and you step on the scale.
Yep, you're losing weight. A few more weeks pass and your

clothes are fitting better, you don't gasp for air when you
run up a flight of stairs, and you feel and look better
than you've ever felt.

In short--- you are getting AMAZING results. You are
getting exactly what you wanted for your health and body.

And then it starts...

One morning the alarm goes off at zero-dark-thirty and you
hit snooze. Your bed is so warm and cozy that the thought
of getting up to go jogging makes you feel a little queasy.
"No problem, I'll just skip a day," you say to yourself as
you settle back in for another hour of sleep.

The next morning you rationalize it again. And the next
morning... and so.

Pretty soon you're jogging just once or twice a week. Then
once or twice a month. Next thing you know, you jogging in
the morning is just a fuzzy memory of something you used to
do.


If you hate jogging and you hate mornings... what made you
think that you could ever keep with a commitment to jog in
the morning?

Even the benefits of losing weight and getting in shape
aren't enough of a reward to overcome the hatred of
jogging.

Do you see what I mean?

There are many things in our lives that we drop even though
we're getting results we wanted!

So here is what I'm proposing to you-- start off doing
something you enjoy.

Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't do market research,

or that you should purposely pick something where you can't
even think of a way to make ten bucks but you like it. No,
not at all. That's foolish. You're doing a business and a
healthy business needs to make profit.

What I'm saying is that you should start entrepreneurship
with your passions, your interests, and things that bring
you enjoyment.

From that starting point, find a way to make it profitable!
Don't bow down and drop your passions just because there
are other markets out there that are known to be more
lucrative. All you need is a little creativity to be a
successful entrepreneur.

There are people that have taken interests like
housecleaning, cooking, vacuuming and the like, and turned

those passions into multi-million dollar ventures.

If these people can turn these sorts of interests into
full-time professions, why can't you?

I'd much rather do what I like and let the money follow,
then do what I hate and hope I can eventually catch the
money.

The bottom line-- don't sacrifice your love for money.
Unless your true love IS money it just won't work. Real
entrepreneurs do what they do for more than making money
“ They have a purpose. Some call it, a 'calling'.

Jay Abraham







Dear Friends,

By now I am sure you have all heard of Jay Abraham. I have over the years spent a ton of money purchasing some of his works. He is an amazing marketer and teacher. It is very difficult to find any of Jay's information at book stores any longer. He stopped doing things for Nightingale a long time ago.

Often the things available at his website are very expense (he is worth it!) but for first time buyers a little price intimidating. I have looked for his stuff on eBay before too, but it is very hard to find or win a bid on as it is in such demand.

More on Websites







Dear Friends,

Your work hard and build your website. It looks great! Whether is it for a martial arts school like mine is or any other business you need to get visitors. Without traffic, you have nothing. You could pay a company to build traffic for you, it works, but it costs BIG BUCKS to do!

Or, you can build traffic yourself. As I mentioned last time your website must be rich with keywords and phrase that the search engine spiders are going to find. You need links to other pages with similar and relevant content, but more importantly you need others to link to you!

How do you do this? One place to start is to write Internet Press Releases. This can usually be done at no cost and is very effect. ARRIVENET is a good example of a free press release service. Check out the articles found here and add your own. Press Release rank high on search engine. Make your press release keyword rich and don't forget to link to your website.

Setting up a Website


Dear Friends,

One, if not the greatest error that most people will make when setting up their company website, whether it be a martial arts school or any other business is that they leave it in the hands of a graphic or web design person.

The purpose of your website it to drive sales, not get awards from design groups. Look around at other websites and see what is out there.

Your site needs to load FAST, so keep graphics use low. All links need to be organized and easy to find within the text of the site. Any you need to have lots of TEXT. Tell your story, talk about your product or service and use the keywords that are relevant to what you are selling! Rich keyword text that is on topic is what the search engines are looking for.

Software






Life can get very busy, especially for school owners/operators. It is always nice when you can find something to help make your life a little easier. Martial Art school software is one of those areas. Well, sadly they all seem to make operating a school a bit more of a pain in the ass.

Back in August 2003 I purchase MAS at the NAPMA convention in Orlando Florida. I was hoping it would live up to all the hype that was around it. Because it had no import utility I had to reenter all my student data. Now with 300 members and 500 or 600 prospects, this was a BIG JOB.

WOW, was I disappointed! Many of the features that MAS offered just did not function properly, nor was the program configurable to meet my needs. Oh well, guess I will just have to life with it.

Updates came regularly for the program, which was nice. Some bugs were fixed, others were created with the fix. But hey, it was livable. Then disaster struck, my laptop crashed. Well hey I have the database backed up on an other hard drive so I am set. Wrong again! I had also lost the 'key' for MAS when the crash happened. But hey, I know I will call tech support and get a new key! After making the call, being put on hold for 20 minutes, then told someone would call be back, nothing happened. I called again the next evening and was told that I would need to upgrade my serviced with them, since they had no record of my purchase to begin with. I was told the records were deleted and I was just out of luck. Purchase something NEW.

Well, I am sure you can understand my frustration! I tried emailing the company and did not receive a response. So much for support or anything else.

My solution? I am getting a very talented programmer to write some that WILL work for all martial art school owners large and small! It will be secure, configurable, and have full support. Not just some salesman looking for an up sell.

Keep your eyes posted here. The product is currently in production and I am hope some beta test version will be available soon! Plus, we are planning an IMPORT utility for MAS users!

Ideas






Here are a few ideas to help get your school rocking for 2007. We do this type of multilevel marketing every month.

1. We have a monthly Buddy Day
2. We send out invitations to school activities
3. We do free community service events, like women's self-defense classes and children's safety classes
4. We have a regular schedule of social events
5. When possible, we have booths at local trade fairs
6. We provide speakers to speak at local events
7. Work with other businesses, like have the local pizza place add your flyers to their boxes, while you give students coupons for their business.

These types of event give you a chance to talk with new prospects. Word of month is great from all these sources.

Cost of an enrollment







Most marketing expert will ask you what it cost for you to get a call from a prospect. They will then tell you how effective you marketing is based on this number. My comment is WHO CARES!

I am more concerned with the cost of enrolling a student. I don't make any money on phone calls. This is why knowing the value of a student is so important.

So if you do an add in a magazine and it costs you $500, and you
get 3 students from the ad. The cost per enrollment is $166.66 per
student. Is that worthwhile? for me YES!!! The value of a new student
to me is about $1500, so I would I would spend $500 all day if it got
me 3 students? Do you see where I am going with this?

Here is another example.

3 different marketing methods.

A) Cost $600 per student
B) Cost $350 per student
c) Cost $75 per student

Which would you do? As long as your student value is more than $600, you should do all 3! You might want to put more money into C, but as long as they are all working, do them all!

This is what is called doing a marketing Parthenon. The more legs in your Marketing Parthenon, the stronger your grow.

Do you know what the lifetime value of a student is? Have you thought about how important that figure is? Do you have upgrade programs for your students or does the tuition stay the same forever?

Myself I have 3 different programs in the school. The first is the Trial Program, the place were all new student start. If they make certain qualification they are eligible to upgrade their program to either Black Belt Club, or Master's Club. BBC is a commitment to train to 1st Dan Black Belt and Master Club is to 4th Dan. There is a price pump in both programs. So what is the value of your student?

If you have a student come in and sign a one year agreement (contract) and you are charging lets say $99 per month (too low in my books). The student value is 12 time 99 or $1188. The lifetime value is then based from here on your retention.

Now the next question is what is the cost of enrolling a new student? We will get into this in my next posting.

Direct Marketing Rules


Direct response marketing is by far the best method of driving your enrollments. There is no other type of marketing that is as effect. So what is Direct Marketing and how can I use it to grow my school? The answer is fairly simple. Direct response marketing follows some simple rules. These 10 rules are listed below. It also is a style of marketing that gets your prospective student to pickup the phone and call you NOW!

  1. There will ALWAYS be an OFFER or OFFERS
  2. There will be a reason to respond RIGHT NOW
  3. There will be clear instruction on HOW TO RESPOND
  4. There will be tracking and measurement
  5. Branding only as a bi-product
  6. There will ALWAYS be FOLLOW-UP!
  7. There will be strong copy in the ad, not boring
  8. In general the ad will look like mail order advertising.
  9. Results RULE PERIOD!

Over the last few years I have subscribed to many, many different mail list on marketing in general, or marketing a martial art school in specific. A lot of the information given is very similar. It is either raw marketing ideas, or the more spiritual approach to attracting business and wealth, which I also like very much. What I am going to post below is an email from a Dan Kennedy fan, who I purchases some stuff on eBay from. This email is quite interesting and informative.

Knowing is about trusting that you are the only one who knows what is right for you, that you are capable of handling whatever comes to you, and that you are clear on your intentions or the outcome you choose to create.

I've seen the power of being absolutely clear on my intentions for my life: They come true!

They have for me, and I watched the Spiritual Millionaires as their intentions came to reality for them as well.

Being clear on your intentions is a good first step. However, a more powerful and life-changing step is trusting that those intentions are ALREADY a reality on the non-physical plane of consciousness, and that they must manifest in your physical reality if you do not hold any opposing thoughts.

And then, "Act As If..." your intentions are reality, now.

Not dishonestly, or outside of your true beliefs. But, to feel it, sense it, imagine how it's going to "show up" in various situations once it manifests in your life.

Principle Number 2:

THEY TAKE ACTION

As I observed Spiritual Millionaires, I noticed that they didn't hesitate to move on their ideas and responding to situations that called for action in order to keep the momentum going.

Do you get the power of what this Principle is about?

If you're sitting waiting for something to happen, doing other "important" tasks rather than those that you know will produce the results you desire , you are wasting time and you are no closer to your desire.

Trust me on this one, I've waited for so many things in my life that never showed up!

Acting on your desire is habit that you desperately need to cultivate in order to get to where you want to be!

Waiting will not do it!

I watched these Spiritual Millionaires, one after another, take immediate action, not out of fear or to 'force' things to happen, but because the next action they took brought them one step closer to their desire.

And, I saw tremendous results come into their lives.

They don't take unnecessary action. Instead, they use the leverage of energy, the same leverage of energy that creates everything in the universe.

I have seen these Spiritual Millionaires step into spaces of discomfort, and have courage to take action. It was also evident that they were as scared to take those steps as you and I are when we're faced with the choice of moving out of our comfort zone.

It's time to "Get Moving", trust your intuition, your sense of knowing what the next step is, and take action. We often wait for the "feeling to be right" first, before we take the action we know will bring us satisfaction.

That's backwards!

Never try to force things to happen because you are afraid of what will happen if you don't take a certain action.

Acting on your intentions without trying to force things to happen will magnetize your desires by attracting people, places and opportunities into your into reality that you never would have even seen if you hadn't done so.

Principle Number 3:

THEY MAINTAIN AN "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE"

Spiritual Millionaires maintain an "attitude of gratitude".

Gratitude does not need explanation - you know how to be grateful.

But did you know that gratitude brings you more of what you appreciate?

Gratitude speeds along the manifestation of your desires.

When you find things that you appreciate and you use them as your point of focus, your world has to get better in every area of your life.

Spiritual Millionaires know that every time they flood their mind with appreciation or gratitude they attract more of what they desire.

Look around you right now. What can you be grateful for?

Make a list. Get into the authentic feeling of true gratitude.
Find something, anything, to be grateful for right now. When you are grateful, you're in a high energy vibration that will attract more things to be grateful for and more good things will come to you magically, drawn in by your feelings of gratitude.

How to build a great website.


One of the great misconceptions martial arts school owners have is about their websites. I have see so many AWFUL site, all done by great martial artists.
The first question to ask is WHY are you doing your site? Is it to serve your students? Or do you want to attract NEW STUDENTS. If you want to service your students, create a site or BLOG especially for that purpose. There you can tell your students the history of your art, how many years you have practiced, what your titles are etc, etc, etc.
Then create a website to attract NEW STUDENTS. Don't give them style information here, or anything martial art oriented. At this site you tell them about how wonderful your program is, how much 'little johnny' has improved his grades and WHY this prospect viewing your site should chose you and not the guy around the corner.
Next register a domain name, and make it something that works with the area you are in. An example would be london-kenpo.ca. This would help to optimize your website so that the search engines find it easier. Something like masterbobkarate.com won't do much in search engine ranking.
Now take a look at my website. I have 5 different domains all pointing to the same place. I get fantastic results from this website. It is FULL of testimonials from students and parents as to how wonderful we are. Pictures os student and video. My site is also a direct response marketing example.

Flyers, do's and don't


Good Afternoon,

Today I am going to take a minute to discuss flyers in particular and all print ads in general. As I was saying in the last post about how martial arts masters and instructors love to talk about themselves in all their ads and what a HUGE mistake that is, we now need to discuss the headlines of your flyers and ads.

I have watched over the years as so many school owner let 'ad agencies' or the creative (and I use that word loosely) departments of magazines write the flyers and ads for martial art schools. These ads NEVER work the way they should. You must control this function of your advertising and if you are not directly doing the writing yourself, learn these rules and watch what goes on closely!

Whenever I heard an ad professional tell me the ad is bad or their is too much information in the ad, I know I have a GREAT ad!

So, first for today. The HEADLINE. The headline is the ad for the ad, it is what make people read the copy! Using the name of your school, or the work Karate won't work. You will get the odd person who is thinking about martial arts already, but we want people who NEVER thought of the idea to read the ad. Your headline must be compelling! Here are few I have used very successfully.

1) ATTENTION PARENTS!!
2) Does you child have the attention span of a 6 week old puppy?
3) The Secrets to Building UNSTOPPABLE Confidence in your child.
4) Is your child being tormented by BULLIES?

All these work! Think of some of your own now and write them down! Look at other ads from different companies to get ideas.

What am I doing wrong? Part 2


One of the most critical mistakes I often see in advertising by martial arts school owners is the massive amount of information they want to give prospective students on themselves. I will often see the titles like "North American Grand Champion" and "World Breaking Champion", "Winner of every Bare knuckle Event in the World" and all the other crap that goes with it.

Well I hate to burst your bubble here, but NOBODY CARES! Your prospective students want to know what is in it for them!! They don't care how wonderful you think you are. Just like you, they only listen to one radio station and that is WII-FM (What is in it for ME).

Do look at your ads and drop all the hype about you! Start telling your prospect how THEY will benefit from joining your school. Leave the stories about your success till they are Green Belts and dedicated to both you and your school.
